Contemporary Dance Studio is excited to announce it is now an Acrobatic Arts Certified Studio!! We are offering Acrobatic Classes that will help dancers learn the world of Acro. This classes are aged based. However, skill and technique will be monitored student by student. This program goes step by step learning the fundamentals of Acrobatics.
Classes begin September 7, 2021/ Students will have an end of the year showcase in May exact date TBD
Tiny Tot Acro 2yr & 3yr
Primary Acro 4-6yr
Junior Acro 7-10yr
Senior Acro 11+
**Classes are divided by age, however we assess each dancer for their specific level within each class**
example: Jr. Acro may have students in level 2, 3 or 4, each student will work on the specific skills they need to progress to the next level
Classes are focused to build a strong foundation by teaching proper terminology, form, and execution. Our Acro classes offer progressions of skills that when taught step by step instruction, the dancer will have the correct technique. Acro technique includes balancing, limbering, tumbling, and partnering, based in flexility, contortion and strength.
There will be several skills taught at each level, here are some of the skills required before moving to the next level.
Tiny Tot: Introduction on bouncing, jumping, stretching and balancing
Level 1: square hip exercise, V sit, handstand facing the wall, push up to bridge, forward pike roll
Level 2: pre-toes to head, pre-forward bend, superman, bridge, handstand in pike facing the wall, forward roll, straddle roll, cartwheel, handstand
Level 3: splits, bridge (hold), quarter scorpion, headstand, down to bridge, bridge walking, bridge kickover, cartwheel from knee
Level 4: V sit (hold), superman (hold), half scorpion, headstand (hold), headstand to straddle, bridge recover, bridge prances, handstand chest roll, dive roll
Level 5: Chest & forearm stand, bridge kick over, bridge to forearms, front limber, arabian to handstand to forward roll, one hand & hurdle cartwheel
Level 6: handstand shoulder touches, bridge recover (3 in a row), bridge to chest roll, fish flop, flying cartwheel, front & back walkover
Level 7: leg holds, tick tock, Arabian limber, back arabian limber, side aerial, front & back walkover right & left, hurdle roundoff
Level 8: V snaps, straddle press, handstand walking, back walkover to chest roll, valdez, front walkover from one knee, back handspring
The dancer should wear a leotard or a fitted tank top and pull on shorts without buttons or zippers. Cotton or spandex shorts can be worn over the leotard (no tutu’s, dresses, buttons or zippers). The dancer may choose to wear tights, but they must have cut outs for the feet. No baggy clothing, denim, or jewelry. Please have hair pulled back away from the face. You will take your shoes and socks off for class.
